First shipment of Ultra Pro supplies: sleeves, storage boxes and a grading submission kit. Plus the right way to send a card off for grading without damaging it.

You buy cards, you open them, you pull something good. And then what? Storage is always an afterthought, usually one that arrives after the damage is done. Our first Ultra Pro shipment fills that gap in the catalogue.

Ultra Pro has been the industry reference for decades, for a simple reason: it is the brand collectors trust with the cards they cannot afford to lose.

Sleeves

Everything starts here, and it is the highest-return purchase in the whole collection: a few centimes per card against a value that can run into hundreds of francs.

Two uses, two products. For play, you want an opaque-backed, thick sleeve built to survive shuffling and hundreds of games. For storage, you want the opposite: a thin, perfectly clear sleeve that then slides into a firmer protection.

Do not mix them up. A play sleeve inside a rigid holder leaves the card room to move, and a storage sleeve used in a game will tear within an evening.

Storage boxes

A growing collection always outgrows the display box it came in. A dedicated storage box protects against the card's three real enemies: dust, light, and above all handling. Every time you rummage through a loose pile, you add micro-scratches nobody can see with the naked eye and a grader spots instantly.

The grading submission kit

This is the piece we really wanted on the shelf. The official PSA kit made by Ultra Pro gathers everything needed to send cards for grading:

A shipping mailer and its packing materials. Twenty Easy Grip sleeves. Twenty semi-rigid holders. A microfibre cloth. Four Ultra Pro x PSA card protectors. And the submission instructions, with a QR code to the PSA site.

The correct method, and the most common mistake

Here is the order to follow: the card goes first into a thin sleeve, and the whole thing then goes into a semi-rigid holder. Never the other way round, and never the bare card straight into the semi-rigid.

The most common mistake is sending a card in a toploader. It feels right, since it is the most rigid protection you own, and that is exactly the problem: grading services ask for a semi-rigid holder precisely because they need to remove the card without forcing it. A toploader demands a pulling motion that can mark the edges, and it is those edges that separate a 9 from a 10.

One technical detail the product pages leave out: the semi-rigid holder is made of PVC. It is ideal for transport, but it is not a long-term storage medium in direct contact with the card. It is the thin sleeve inside that makes the whole thing safe over time. So never store a bare card in a semi-rigid for months on end.

A practical note from Switzerland

The mailer supplied in the kit is sized for the American postal format, and the instructions point to the American procedure. Before sending anything, check on the PSA site which receiving location applies from Switzerland and what the current terms are: they change, and a routing error on valuable cards is expensive.
